During my time in debate, I sought to go for as many competitions as possible, and aimed to do the best I could
Sometimes things don't go well, but the experience and knowledge I gain is invaluable, and I look forward to future opportunities to re-enter the debating scene
Psssst! Click on my acomplishments to read my reflections!
This was one of the more memorable experiences, despite being the youngest of my team, I contributed greatly to the team and even pulled my weight, my biggest regret was choosing to sit on the sidelines more often than not, which drove me to attend more competitions
I was extremely surprised I did this well, especially amongst the sea of strong debaters, however its a personal reminder that we are capable of so much, and it doesn't hurt to try.
Words cannot express how I feel about this competition, I was teamed with my senior and coach, and went against some of the toughest rounds I've ever been in. I really thought I wouldn't do well, however surprisingly I pulled through and carried my own weight
This is my favourite competition, HYSS internals were the perfect blend of wacky and interesting, and this was one of the biggest stepping stones that led to who I am now. My only regret is not appreciating it enough.
When I first started off in HYSS debate, I hit a record low for debate aptitude at thr time, however with my coach's guidance and the support of my peers, I finally tasted success, and this fuelled my early years in debate.
I teamed up with one of my seniors and my good friend from debate from this one, despite facing off against JC and Poly debaters for the first time, we didn't let thos phase us, and pushed through, while we missed out on advancing to the quarterfinals, our close brush with it made me satisfied with our performance and improvement.
Funnily enough, while this was a friendly competition, the matchups in here were very tough and I faced alot of difficulties, it was an eye-opening experience however, to see some of the peaks of debate.
It was a pretty good warmup, but I feel like I could've done much better.
I'm feel conflicted about this one...
It was my best performance of all time, but I wish I did better, read more below.
Debate is like the moon, it has two faces to it,
sometimes you deliver well, yet you feel unsatisfied,
sometimes you don't do well, yet still win anyway.
I've learnt from debate that the only person you should ever compete with, is yourself.
For example in SSSDC 2025, I delivered some of my best performance of my debating career thus far,
but lost regardless, and that's fine, one day, I'll go to another competition, and I'll do even better
because I’m not chasing a trophy,I’m chasing growth.
Debate has taught me that success isn’t always about the outcome, but about how much stronger, sharper, and more confident I become each time I step up to speak. Whether I win or lose, I take something back with me: a better version of who I was before.
